RURAL PROJECT PHASE TWO – RECRUITMENT BEGINS

After the success of our pilot project training women from Jinja in Eastern Uganda, WOMA is now extending its reach into Western Uganda. Nora and Karen have just returned from a field trip to Uganda, the first in two years because of travel restrictions due to the pandemic. It was evident that Covid has severely impacted the women we are targeting who have already been disadvantaged through HIV/AIDS.

For the next phase of our rural project we travelled to Mpigi, one of the poorest areas in the country with a high incidence of teenage pregnancies and gender based violence. Record numbers of women turned up to be interviewed and there were many more excellent candidates than we have places for so we will be stepping up our fundraising campaign to enable us to help more women from rural areas.
